Real Men Read
Real Men Read is a literacy initiative of the Partnership for Children of Lenoir & Greene Counties.
General Purpose
- To promote early literacy among children Preschool – 5th grade
- To give students a positive experience with adult males
- To increase children’s interest in reading
- To convey that reading and critical thinking are essential to success
- To expose students to various professions through interactions with their readers
- To impress upon men the values of their presence in child care, classrooms, and community
Who are Our Readers?
Our readers are male mentors representing a cross-section of our community. They work in public and private sectors, government, media and faith-based organizations. Mentors must care deeply about children and be passionate about early literacy.

Books for the Program
Books are hand selected and purchased by the Partnership for Children of Lenoir & Greene Counties. Our vendor of choice is All About Books. Each child participating in this program receives a copy of the book read to them at story time.
